Visit The Paper House @ The Paper House

The Paper House is actually made of paper. Newspaper. 

It was built by Mr. Elis F. Stenman, a mechanical engineer who designed the machines that make paper clips, began building his Rockport summer home out of paper as a hobby. That was in 1922.

Hours: The paper house is open 10 am. – 5 p.m., every day from spring through fall.

Admission is $2.00 for adults and $1.00 for children ages 6 – 14. Admission is on the honor system

Directions: The house is somewhat off the beaten path and the signs can easily be missed.

On entering Rockport follow 127 north toward Pigeon Cove. After the Yankee Clipper Inn take the second left (Curtis Street) then another left on Pigeon Hill Street to No. 52 on your right. For specific directions from your location, see the map below.

IMPORTANT NOTE TO TOUR BUS OPERATORS – You cannot come up the hill onto Curtis Street. The road is too narrow, there is no place to turn around.

From its earliest days as a fishing and shipping port to its mid-19th century role in the granite industry, to its singular charms of light and sea that have attracted countless artists from the 19th century to the present, Cape Ann boasts a rich and varied culture of nationally significant historical, industrial, and artistic achievement. The Museum’s fine art collection includes the largest grouping of works by native son and renowned marine artist, Fitz Henry Lane, as well as work by other prominent painters and sculptors who lived on, visited or were inspired by Cape Ann. 

HOURS AND ADMISSION

MUSEUM HOURS

Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Sunday, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Museum is closed on Mondays and on these major holidays: New Years Day, Easter Sunday,  Independence Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. On December 24 and December 31 the Museum closes at 1:00 p.m.

ADMISSION

Adults: $12.00
Cape Ann residents, seniors and students: $10.00
Museum members and youth (18 and under): FREE

Ryan & Wood provides FREE distillery tours & features a tasting room, plus a bottle & gift shop!

Tours are offered Mon-Wed-Fri-Sat at 10am & at 1pm, & last about an hour including a free tasting.

Reservations are NOT required, so if you find yourself in the area, stop on in at tour time!

Their most filling tour, Taste Gloucester guests will make their way on foot through downtown Gloucester sampling food from five or six local vendors during this award winning foodie tour.

From delicious local chowder, bacon wrapped scallops, beer tastings, authentic Italian cannoli, to a sandwich that Gloucester natives have been enjoying for decades. This tour will expose you to local treats you’d be hard pressed to discover on your own.

Along the way, our dynamic tour guides will provide the backdrop to this 400-year-old city with great stories and interesting facts about the oldest working seaport in America. There will be no room for lunch after this tour as we make sure you leave “full” of knowledge!
